Origins & Legacy
The Rathores are descendants of the Rashtrakutas and are known as the "Invincible in Battle". They ruled the desert kingdom of Marwar with a blend of martial prowess and architectural brilliance.
Arrival in the Desert
Rao Siha, the founder, migrated to the Pali region in 1226. His descendants consolidated power in the harsh Thar desert, turning it into a formidable kingdom.
Foundation of Jodhpur
Rao Jodha founded the city of Jodhpur in 1459 and built the majestic Mehrangarh Fort, shifting the capital from Mandore to a more secure hilltop location.
Mughal Relations and Expansion
Under rulers like Raja Jaswant Singh and Mota Raja Udai Singh, the Rathores became key generals in the Mughal army, expanding their influence from Kabul to the Deccan.
