The Legend
Rao Jodha was a ruler of Mandore in the present-day state of Rajasthan using the Rathore clan. He is best known for founding the city of Jodhpur in 1459 and building the majestic Mehrangarh Fort. He consolidated the Rathore kingdom and secured it against regional threats, laying the foundation for one of the most powerful states in Rajputana.
Early Life & Origins
Jodha had to flee his capital Mandore after his father, Rao Ranmal, was assassinated in Mewar. He reportedly spent 15 years as a fugitive, gathering allies and strengthening his forces in the desert before he could finally reclaim his lost heritage.

A curse by a hermit named Cheuria Nathji is said to have caused the water scarcity Jodhpur faces to this day.
He buried a man named Raja Ram Meghwal alive in the foundations of Mehrangarh Fort to ensure its auspiciousness (at the man's voluntary request).
His son, Rao Bika, went on to found the separate kingdom of Bikaner.
