Sawai Jai Singh II was the Kachwaha ruler of Amber and the founder of Jaipur. He is widely known for his contributions to astronomy and urban planning. In 1727 he founded the city of Jaipur, designed with advanced planning principles. He also built a series of astronomical observatories known as Jantar Mantar across India.
