The Legend

Maharana Udai Singh II was the ruler of Mewar and the father of the legendary Maharana Pratap. He is best remembered for founding the city of Udaipur in 1559 after Chittorgarh became vulnerable to Mughal attacks. His reign was marked by constant struggles with the expanding Mughal Empire under Akbar. Although Chittorgarh eventually fell to the Mughals in 1568, Udai Singh ensured the survival of the Sisodia dynasty by relocating the capital to Udaipur.

Early Life & Origins

Udai Singh survived assassination attempts as a child and was secretly protected by the loyal nurse Panna Dai.

Eternal Legacy

He ensured the survival of Mewar and laid the foundation for his son Maharana Pratap to continue resistance against the Mughals.
